Paradigmatic Alternatives for Studying the EU Enlargement

The course aims to introduce PhD students to the diversity of perspectives of the EU enlargement process, tracing the history of the development of this specialized academic tradition of the last 30 years. It clarifies at the same time the paradigm grounds for the differences in the approach to the research subject, but also the practical and political consequences of the different interpretations of the studied problem. Doctoral students will receive  knowledge of the history and current state of research on Eastern EU enlargement in terms of substantive diversity and methodological differences contained in the main scientific achievements of this academic tradition; competence to participate in academic debates on EU enlargement processes by understanding the grounds for differences in the positions of the disputing parties; competence to examine EU policies on its own by reflecting on one’s own position on the study subject.
