The Western Balkans Have the Right to Participate in the Debate on the Future of the European Union

Putting the integration of the Western Balkans among the priorities of the forthcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council requires careful consideration and complete clarity on what to do in such a sensitive area. The signing of the Treaty between Bulgaria and R. Macedonia is a very positive step and the Presidency should make the most of the response it received both in the countries of the Western Balkans and in the European Union. The holding of an informal European Council with the participation of the leaders of the Western Balkans in order to reaffirm the European perspective of the countries is logical, but hardly enough.
