On November 5, 2017 on a visit to Ukraine, the Polish Foreign Minister Waszczykowski accused Germany in intervening in the interior of Poland. The reason for this is the note of the German Defense Minister Ursula von der Lijen in broadcasting on German television about the need to support the “democratic resistance of the younger generations in Poland”. According to Waszczykowski, this statement is direct support for the Polish government’s domestic opposition, for which Warsaw asks for an explanation from Berlin. In her commentary Assoc. Prof. Mirela Veleva comments on the challenging narrative of Polish politicians and elaborates on the impact of these processes on the relations between EU Member States.
