Tenth International Scientific Conference “The state of the European Union – the need for unity and solidarity”

The Tenth International Scientific Conference of the European Studies Department at the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” on the topic “The state of the European Union – the need for unity and solidarity” took place on 01-02.06.2023 with the support of the Hans Seidel Foundation and the Wilfred Martens Center for European Studies – Brussels.

Among the participants in the conference were academics from France, Greece, Brazil, Poland, China, Romania, Great Britain, Lithuania, Croatia, Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, as well as professors from a number of Bulgarian universities. Researchers and experts in various fields shared their knowledge, research and experience regarding important European issues. Students and members of the European Studies Club took part in the organization of the conference.

The conference covered a variety of topics: “The digital divide in the EU”, “The EU energy market”, “New developments in EU consumer protection policy in the financial sphere”, “The debate on the future of the EU in the light of the economic and energy crisis” were discussed as well as “The external relations of the EU”, “The war in Ukraine as an ‘opportunity’ for the European Union”, “The principle of solidarity in the EU”, “Does mutual trust exist in the EU” and “The Europeanization of the European Parliament. These topics were addressed by various perspectives, and the discussions and exchange of ideas among the participants contributed to a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the European Union.

The tenth conference of the Department of European Studies was an important event that contributed to the expansion of knowledge and understanding of European integration and the challenges we face.
