For a Change in the Status Quo, but Without Affecting the French Jewel – CAP

Macron’s statement regarding the future of Europe from the programme speech in September 2017 created the impression that France was ready to break off with the tradition and apply a totally new approach in regard to the Common Agricultural Policy. This impression was confirmed by the French President’s declaration of the readiness for a change in the status quo in Europe. Paris’ extremely negative reaction to the EC’s proposal for reduction of the funds for the Common Agricultural Policy in the next budget, however, illustrated the fact that the support for a change in the status quo is limited to the specific national interests of France.
