WHAT IS NOT A ROTATING PRESIDENCY OF THE COUNCIL OF THE EU?

The expectations towards the first Bulgarian Presidency, which will take place between 1 January – 30 June 2018 are comparatively high. At times, they turn into over-expectations which have little connection to reality. Therefore, it is good, at the beginning of the Presidency term, to have a clear answer to the question what is and what is not a Rotating Presidency.

In this article some of the most common myths and mistakes, which are often attributed to the Council Presidency, are presented. The aim of the author is to give a clearer perspective on what the Presidency is and what its functions, competences and limitations are.
